We had another successful crab feed this year and we could not have done it without our amazing guests. Due to the devastating wildfires this past summer, our members wanted to extend themselves to a cause much bigger than ourselves. So the idea came up to hold a separate fundraiser at the crab feed and all the proceeds would go to the victims of the camp fire in Butte County. Knowing that our generous guests had already went above and beyond spending money at our event, we weren’t sure how it would go. We took the chance and what followed is something none of us will ever forget.
We showed a slideshow of the devastating impact of the fire and told a short story of some of the tragic events that unfolded the day of the fire. We asked the room of 800 people to pledge an amount for a donation, not thinking we would make a great impact. Hands began to raise for donations of $5,000. Shortly after, one generous guest informed us he would like to donate $10,000! As the amounts dropped from $5,000 to $1,000, the hands in the audience began to raise more frequently. There was even a gentleman in attendance that he, himself lost his entire existence in the fire, and he made a pledge to donate to others. At the end of our 10 minute request, we collectively raised over $46,000!
This was the single most amazing act of kindness and generosity most of us have ever seen. To be in a room with these people, at this event, in the city, for this cause ....was special. We live in a special community unlike any other. It is often asked of us “how can we ever repay you, our firefighters for what you do?” The answer to that question was answered Saturday night. Believing in the causes we represent is the greatest gift of all. One behalf of the 74 members of the Vacaville Firefighters Association, our sincere thank you! Together, we make a great team. With the $25,000 donation our charity fund has already made to the cause, the people of Paradise will receive over $70,000 from a team of firefighters and the amazing citizens of Vacaville. Thank you all for everything you do for us, our community and the causes we support. #bayareafirefighter #iaff #cpf #chiefmiller

That is so awesome. I know the funds will be greatly appreciated. My niece and her husband also lost everything in the Paradise Fire. You are all awesome!

I was shocked! The generosity was amazing. Thank you so very much to the people who donated, it was like nothing I've ever seen! This was a great idea and I'm so happy that the people affected by this tragedy will be receiving this gift and I hope they know we haven't forgot able them. ❤️
